Wine Outside the Beltway

Anton Bauer Wagram Cuvee No. 10 2004

Perfectly drinkable but pricey at $15.99.

One online reviewer remarked of this wine, “I love wines like this -very giving, but a little unrefined. Like bringing a stripper to the library.” I’m not sure what the hell that means but it’s funny.

Schloss Gobelsburger Riesling 2005

Winery:Schloss Gobelsburger  (Austria)
Vintage:2005
Price:17.99

This was one of our wine pairings for a Let’s Dish meal (Cashew Chicken). I’m not a big white fan, especially sweet whites, but I really enjoyed this. As a general rule, James loves Rieslings and this one especially..

Meinklang Blanc De Noir Frizzante 2004

Winery:Meinklang  (Burgenland, Austria)
Vintage:2004
Type:Champagne-Sparkling
Retailer:Rick's Wine & Gourmet
Price:$15.99
Description:"Refreshing palate with generous quantities of red summer berry fruits and biscuity notes. Offers more bubbles than the Italian pair." - www.organic-champagne.com
Notes:Organic grapes. Pinot Noir 2004. About the winery: "Run by the delightful Werner Michlits, the Meinklang vineyards are to be found on the eastern side of Neusiedlersee in eastern Austria close to the Hungarian border. Long summer days allow for the best physiological ripeness, whilst cool evenings give the grapes 'resting' time. Vineyards planted close to the lakes have high atmospheric humidity combined with warm air, the ideal conditions for Austria's world-famous sweet wines: eiswein, or ice wine. With its clear flavour and well-balanced acid, it is made from grapes picked when temperatures plummet below freezing." - www.organic-champagne.com

Meinklang Burgenland Pinot Noir 2004

Winery:Meinklang  (Burgendland Austria)
Vintage:2004
Retailer:Rick's Wine & Gourmet
Price:$11?
Description:"This ripe juicy Pinot Noir jumps out of the glass and up your nose with really ripe red cherry and strawberry aromas. On the palate the wine is quite full and fleshy for a Pinot and is most definitely a modern and contemporary take on this great grape. So if you’re looking for a Burgundy look alike, this may not be to your taste. But for an interesting, well made and affordable Pinot Noir you can’t go wrong." -Home Wino
Notes:Made with organic grapes.
